Originally published in and as a second edition in this volume provides a systematic and comprehensive account of the Basuto people and their changing culture, and reviews the developments and changes leading up to when Basutoland achieved independence as Lesotho. There has been debate regarding the cultural identities of various indigenous groups in South Africa. These identities easily get obscured by debates about spelling and language.
